I lived in Paris for 9 years and it is a great city. People do not seem too friendly at first. But there are many foreigners.
Lovely food and the city itself is really beautiful
Do not hesitate if you want to know specific things

I don't know if that's good for you or not, but you can live in Paris without speaking French, including not understand as well ^ ^
But of course, that's easier when you can understand. ^ ^
Do you have any special question, maybe that will be easier to answer ...

I just moved here from Paris a few weeks ago and am missing it madly... the bistros, the Seine, the moody Parisians. I lived there for 7 years. It's a truly beautiful city, you will have a great quality of life, and as soon as you learn how to live with the Parisians you will love it. If you need any help/tips/contacts just get in touch and I'll be happy to help. lolainhongkong@hotmail.com

Luckly you. I lived in Paris also. There is an international women's club called WICE. I think I got a contact through my embassy. The Embassy also provided names of doctors, dentists, repair people, etc.
Try to speak french as much as possible, even if your french is poor, they will generally appreciated the effort. I also found a Nanny via the advertisement board in the basement of the American Church (7th Arr). Look for the FUSAC english language magazine (can find in hotels and english bookstores, eg Rue Rivoli). Bon chance.
