what can anyone tell me about living in tung chung (as a temparary practical beginning to a new life in HK, my husband's a pilot). i heard i can get short lease rents? we have a little boy of 2. I know about the high pollution rate. Is it a decent place for a start, while we look about at where we'd eventually like to settle? tx

Yes it is a GREAT place to start, Yeah yeah we all know about the pollution but if that is really a major factor don't move to HK.

I have spent the last 4 years living at repulse bay but have moved back to Tung Chung.

Tung Chung has got heaps better in the last couple of years, really good supermarket/shopping centre resturants 25 min to central on the MTR.

We live at Carribbean coast it has great facilities pools gym small supermarket down stairs 7/11 and is about a 10 minute walk to MTR.There is also a play group down stairs and a free shuttle bus every 5 minutes to City Gate.

it is only a 20 hk dollar ride to cx/dragon air ond about 30 dollars to the airport.

My husband is also a pilot,We only have a small apartment as hubby commutes to Australia.

It's 7800 per month for a 1000 S/F including management and rates,3 bedroom 2 bathroom balcony with views over the airport and would be a perfect size for you to start, There are other bigger sizes available for about 12,000 per month.not sure about the shorter leases usually it is a 2 year lease that has a break clause.

What ever you do don't get pressured by the agents there is so much supply here, agents always make out there are very few apartments which is just not the case.

I have a 6 month old baby.

at the moment I spend most of the time in Australia but am coming up shortly.

Discovery bay is also great for familys. loads of pilots but so does Tung Chung. it is also great for your husband to get to work and there is a ferry that goes to central... the big bonus is they have good schools there..there can be long waiting lists though.

hope this helps,

welcome to HK,

WHITE RABBIT.

I agree with White Rabbit. We have lived in Tung Chung for the past 5 years. Expats, my husband is also a pilot. We have two kids - 3 years and 1 year. We are very happy here. Close to everything, great facilities, good shopping area etc. Lots of other xpats and children around and new playgroups opening soon. Have done a lot of research recently with regards to the pollution levels (looking at buying some very expensive air purifiers), as things turn out (measured the air pollution levels in various places over Hong Kong), the pollution is much the same everywhere. Not much worse in Tung Chung then most other places in Hong Kong so don't let that be the deciding factor for you. Good luck with your move and hope to see you around!
