Hi All,

There is a possibility that my job may be relocated to Seoul. I notice from previous threads that a few people are based in Seoul so was wondering if anyone could pass on any helpful survival hints or tips? We have a child about to turn 2 so any child care, activities or schooling advice most welcome.

Many thanks

babybear -

i'm in Seoul now - lived here for 2.5 years after coming from HK. In some ways, Seoul is easier than HK, but in some ways more difficult. I will have to say that there is definite progress in terms of treatment of expats here in the last 2 years - from when I first came and now, but many things are still tricky and frustrating.

there are international schools here, english only preschools and you can also hire help. Help is far more expensive here than in HK. (I pay my helper over around 8000 HKD a month.) She's not live in either - but very good. If you want a more "international" lifestyle, UN village, Hannamdong, Itaewon are areas that you should consider.

commuting is hard in Seoul - lots of cars - subways are very cheap, not as efficient as HK, but still very good at covering the whole sprawling city. Depending on where you work, it can make a difference.

If you have further questions, let me know.
