Best Child Friendly Hotel in Phuket

ORIGINAL POST

We are traveling with our two children, ages 1 and 3 to Phuket. I'm interested in hearing from parents about which hotels/resorts catered best to toddlers. Any particular activities that a resort did well would be of help. Thanks!

There was a really good review on one the Alamanda in Phuket here:

http://hongkong.asiaxpat.com/forums/momsdads/threads/91631.asp

If you search for Alamanda it is mentioned on some other threads too.

Another friend swears by Club Med and all the activities - they are real adventure types who never thought of going there and won a holiday in a company raffle a few years ago - they loved it so much they go back almost every year and their daughter says 'club med!!!' But I am not sure what activities are suitable for young young babies- maybe check their website?

hope lots contribute to this thread as we hope to go there soon too!

have a friend who took her kid there in sept/oct (he turned 1 in dec) to stay at katathani resort. she managed to overcome the communication barrier and deep freeze all her kid's food in the hotel kitchen which she carted along. she also said the rooms (baby had connecting room as it was so cheap when they went) they had located close enough to the pool that they could still use their baby monitor while baby napped.

try tripadvisor.com for reviews too?

Thanks guys....the allamanda looks like it could work. Both girls will be okay with regular food - so the kitchen aspect isn't SO important, although hubby did mention that we should bring a suitcase of food so that we weren't always eating hotel food. (he likes home cooking.) Man - I thought vacation was getting away! HAHAH.

I am curious about JW Marriot - because their children's pool looks so gorgeous with the turtle scultpures and fountains. Both girls love playing in fountains and whatnot -so a good children's pool is high on my list of things I want to see.

I hope I get more comments as well!

The Sheraton (in the same complex as Allamanda) is very nice and great for kids. Their Kids Club playground was a bit beat up when we were there (just before the tsunami), but perhaps they have upgraded it now. Didn't spend too much time there anyways as our son spent most of the time at the beach. Allamanda is not located right on the beach ... they have a shuttle service. A friend of mine highly recommends the Marriott for kids.

I stayed in Sheraton in 2005...was tempted to buy the time sharing option. Surely will do Sheraton again. My kids (3 yo and 1 yo then) enjoyed the company of their babies elephant throughout the day. Checkout the link below...there are 2 Sheraton in Phuket...make sure it is one in Laguna. You can do hotel hopping with the free ferry ride and the hotels there do share their facilities as well. Dusit also looks great for kids. Don't worry about foods...spoil by choices other than frm the 5 great hotels, there are also foods at the canal shopping village.

do the allamanda suites have kitchenette?

Hi Wheelymate -

yes they do - hotplate microwave, small fridge, dishes and whatnot.

We decided to do the Marriot though - within the resort, they have villas - which aren't like the posh fancy hotel villas, but rather timeshare/condo type villas. It's quite pricey, but if you're willing to listen to a 90 minute sales pitch (with the freedom to refuse) they'll give you 3 days 2 nights for free. Then we got tw more nights at $200 USD and the final two nights at $351 or something like that. It works out to similar to the Allamanda - but I was keen for the Marriott because of the lovely children's pool. I am still pretty torn though - because Laguna sounds like there is a lot to do. I want my girls to see the elephants (although the older one has told me that she's not interested in elephants) and be able to visit other resorts, but we decided proximity to our own room would be key since the 1 year old still takes naps. So we just decided on the Marriott. i'll let you know how it is after I come back! (going end of February to early martch.)

hi hkcc,

my in-laws are visiting this week so a last minute thing that we want to all go away together for a few days. was thinking bintan indra maya villas with private pool and all but villas are limited so might be unavailable.

so i was considering phuket. but not more than 3 nights for me....will go and take a look at marriot site and think about it! so did you opt for a villa at marriot? so it's got a kitchen and all?

Hi Wheelymate

above is the post for the villa type things. See if you call them - if you listen to a 90 minute vacation/timeshare/purchase presentation -they will give you the 2 nights 3 day options for free. That's what we got, although we got it through a referral. But you may be able to request it separately. You can see the kitchen - and the 2 bedroom villa (we got a free upgrade) would be perfect for your family and and inlaws.

check it out - and you'll go before me perhas?

We are off to the Marriott vacation club in Phuket in a few weeks time .... excellent location, all amenities, and large enough for two families, or good space for DH and children.

Docboat -

did you find the vacation club easy access to all the regular amenities of the resort itself? Namely the children's pool? I've searched to try and find a map of the resort itself and cannot as I am interested to see where the vacation rentals are on the resort.

Can anyone recommend a good hotel in phuket (preferably not patong) that provides the same room set-up like allamanda? I don't think a kitchen will be critical for us (baby will be more than 1 when we travel so the hotel breakfast, a few jar food and basic dishes from the hotel will do) but we do want a separate living space from the bedroom - baby sleeps at 7pm so we want to have our own space preferably with balcony to chill out.

Our budget is USD900 for 3-4 nights in May (understand that to be low season). I am considering Allamanda but the reviews i read aren't exactly glowing and i would prefer a smaller, more intimate hotel.

HKCC - the marriot looks lovely but like i said, we don't need a kitchen so i'm don't really want to pay extra for that!

We had a great time with our kids at the Dusit Laguna. They were old enough for the kids club but you can send little ones if you go with them or hire a babysitter from the hotel to sit in with them. The pool is pretty much on the beach and we loved being able to switch between the pool and beach according to the sun / mood. Another plus is the group of non hotel restaurants along the beachfront. A short walk away for a cheap and good Thai meal eaten barefoot feet in the sand.

We loved the Dusit laguna too. Dad was able to take the kids sailing and the kids club is good. Staff were great too.........
