Rex cats are the ones that are supposed to be hypo-allergenic. I've been around a few and they seem to be non-irritating, at least to the allergies. ;) But I think some people are allergic to dander which, I believe, is in the cat's saliva. So it may be wise to find a rex cat and have your wife spend some time with it before you take it home.

If you check it out on the net, its full name is the Devon (or Devonshire) Rex.It has a very short, tight curly and wiry coat. Another option is the Sphinx, which has hardly any hair at all, and often described as hairless. Both cats would be extremely hard to find in Hong Kong and you are probably going to have to shell out to a breeder overseas. I don't know much about the former, but the latter can be susceptible to skin problems and would be high maintenance. Good luck!!
