With a Singapore passport, you can travel anywhere you like with your baby, don't you?

Not so simple. The baby has no entry stamp on her Singapore passport. Call Singapore Consulate and ask. If they are not able to produce an answer, call Chu Ru Jin or go there to ask yourself. It is at Jie Fang Nan Lu.

Thanks all, we will today be collecting what the chinese call 'no-time' entry visa fixed in my baby's girl's passport today. We will then have to apply 2 them again for the dependent visa when we are back from the holidays.

Associates is right to advise Alvin to go to Singapore Consulate. He is not suggesting that the Singapore Consulate is the authority to grant the baby the permit. The Singapore Consulate does have the procedure, who, where to go for the permit. I am very disappointed that they did not give the info to Alvin when he got the baby's passport from the Consulate. It should be standard operation procedure of the Consulate to attach the information onto the new passport.

Public Security Bureau is a big organization, Mr Gdbill. My guess is Chu Ru Lu in Jie Fang Lu is the right place to go but I may be wrong. Instead of running around, talking to enquiry counter of Public Security Bureau which may or may not be helpful, the Consulate should have the right info in place.

So, what do you think a baby needs a new passport for? How many cases of new born Singaporean in this part of the world a year?

There are less than 1000 Singaporeans in this part of the world. 100 new born babies is a big number. Hmm......

It may not be the US Consulate job to help Americans. It is certainly the Singapore Consulate's job to help Singaporeans. If no one tells his or her Consulate what is good or bad practice, the Consulate will not know. The Consulate is supported by tax payers' money and is there to serve.

Do you know the difference between an Embassy and Consulate? If you don't know, please check with your lawyer. The Consulate in Guangzhou covers only six provinces of China. This part of the world of course means the area covered by Guangzhou Consulate. Singapore embassy is in Beijing (for obvious reasons). The other Singapore Consulates in China are in Shanghai, Xiamen, Chengdu and Hong Kong (technically speaking).

I am one of the longest staying Singaporeans in Guangzhou (although not the longest). I have been living in this part of the world for the past 14 years. 1000 Singaporeans in these six provinces is my estimate. Most Singaporeans in China live in around Shanghai (Zhejiang, Hangzhou), Beijing, Fujian.

If you think you can source for information sitting in your comfortable chair using the Internet as your only window, you can continue your with what you are doing. I live in a a real world.
