When my son was 21 months old, I introduced the potty to him. By then he was able to verbalise when he was about to poo/wee. It was a potty-chair and it took him just two days to be trained. He was perfectly trained (at least I thought so, then) so much so that once or twice when he had to throw up, he rushed to the potty. But the honeymoon lasted just one month. He began having wetting accidents at least once a day and then regressed to 'all the time'. This went on for about two months, during which time he was okay with the poo bit. Then one fine day, he decided it was okay to soil his pants and during the past one month or so, he has been regularly soiling AND wetting his pants- does not tell us either before/after the event. I have stopped using diapers during the day (unless we are going out some place) in the hope that the wet feeling would get him to use the potty. But no go!! My helper has resorted to taking him to the potty on an hourly basis to wee but I am beginning to wonder whether by doing the thinking for him, we are delaying the training process.
He is now 26 months old and it really is frustrating to have to clean up the mess (especially so, when one is not using diapers). The fact that I also has a seven-month-old who needs my attention is not helping things, either. Anybody have any ideas as to how I ought to tackle this? Wait it out till summer and then let him go around bare-bottomed for a while, perhaps?
