I am a Canadian citizen and my baby is born in HK. I am just wondering if I can/should apply a SIN card for my baby. If so, do I have to do it in person in Canada? Please kindly share your expereince. Many thanks!!

I had my son here in HK and appplied for his citizenship here in HK. If I recall correctly, I went to the Canadian consulate to obtain the papers and submitted them here. It took 6-8months to process and receive his citizenship (yes, it takes awhile) Here's a website with some more info. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizen/bornout-info.html

Thanks ladies. Yes I have already submitted the citizenship application as I know it takes 6-9 months to process. I guess in this case I won't worry about getting a SIN card for baby as we probably will stay in HK for a while.

If you go to a good and experienced photographer for Cdn Passports, they have ways to do it, and resize it too.

SIN definitely not needed, until you get a job!

Did you hear about the new rule though? I don't know when your baby is born, so whether it applies to you. If your baby is NOT born in Canada, you don't get the CDN passport for your baby UNTIL you bring your baby back to live for 1 year. I am still trying to find out more information about this.
