Hello,

When did you start giving solid food to your baby? and how did you start?

Time flies so fast, after all my drama and difficulty in BF, it's now time to give solids soon ;-)

Thanks.

Hi Honeypie,

I started solids three weeks ago when Bubs hit 6 months. We started with iron-fortified brown rice cereal (Healthy Times) and have been introducing a new food every four days. Going well so far!

It has been hilarious watching Bubs' reaction to the new foods (LOVED avocado; grimaced through every mouthful of steamed broccoli but still gobbled it all up!).

We are basing our feeding schedule on a combination of Gina Ford's book on weaning and Ruth Yaron's 'Super Baby Foods'. At the moment, he has two meals -- one at 11am and the other at 5:30pm. Will be introducing breakfast soon. I started off tier-feeding (one breast, followed by solids, followed by the other breast) but now he is quite happy to go straight onto the food, have a rest, then finish up with a full breast feed.

There have been some really good threads recently on how to tell when your baby is ready for solids. I think the WHO used to recommend starting at 4 months, but this has now been revised to 6 months as their digestive systems are more mature and so allergies and food intolerances are less likely. If you think your baby is ready, ok it with your paed. / health visitor and HAVE FUN!

Hi there sounds like Mayafox hit it right on the dot!!!

However, every child is different if yours doesnt take as easy dont be upset.

With my first she was trying to eat food at 4 months always grabbing at my fork when i was eating and holding her. With my 2nd she refused anything but the breast til 8 months. i couldnt get her to eat anything without spitting it out. But when she did eat oh boy did she alot. So, try at 6 months and see how it goes!

good luck!!

Hi Honeypie, cannot believe your bub is ready for solids already. Time did fly! My one started solids when she turned 6months just like mayfax. Unlike her baby, my bub didn't like brocoli and spat it out, didn't like carrots, didn't like most of vege... She eats it when I mix it with congi. I am introducing solids very slowly as she can get most nutrient from milk. She is not yet teething so I guess she isn't ready for full-on solids. Hopefully she will warm up on vege soon. Oh, I also gave orange/apple juice mixed with warm water and she loved it. Funny how she hated it when it was only orange, but loved it when mixed with apple.
