Hi All,
I've just moved to Hong Kong for 3 months and was wondering if it’s possible for my teenage girl (14 and in grade 8) to attend some type of short-term schooling or tutoring?
I have heard that as we are not HK residents (ie have a HKID card), that she is unable to attend the schools???
Any advice would be much appreciated
Thanks

Depending upon what country you are from, you can talk to the appropriate school here - ie HKIS if you are American, but it is very unlikely.
I would agree with Waffle and see if you can coordinate with her home school and combine it with some web based interaction. You can also see if for example, her school would allow some 'life experience' projects to count towards her required credits - maybe some Mandarin/Cantonese classes, a research paper on the history of an aspect of HK, doing some charity work, preparing a slide/ppt presentation to share with her classmates when she gets back, etc... And she'll probably have to go to summer school for the maths and other basics she missed.

hmmmm, that's what i thought.
Is there something similar to private tutors that take small groups of children?
It would be good if she could enjoy at least a bit of social interaction with children of her age while still learning something. Of course, I’ll likely need to give some type of home schooling in the 3Rs

You could contact HKIS, ESF and the other schools and see if she could join the extra-curricular activities -some of the ESF ones are open to the public.
Also, check out Kumon, I am not sure what they have for her age though.
If your company relocated you here for the three months, maybe you can ask the HR dept if they have some ideas/contact information for you.
