c-section/lifting toddlers

what is the deal with c-sections and the advice not to lift toddlers? Is it just to ensure that incision site and uterus heal faster/without complications or are there any long-term implications like preventing backache, uterine prolapse, etc.?

I have two kids - both of whom were delivered by c-section. Ten days after my second child was born, my firstborn (a 20-month old, at the time)went down with a bout of viral fever and was generally run down. This resulted in his being very clingy and me giving in to his 'heart-rendering' pleas to lift/carry him. My post-operative period was uneventful and I recovered pretty quickly. However, I am wondering whether I could have done any damage to my body by carrying my toddler.

Usually they ask this so that you dont tear more or cause alot of blood loss. with any kind of surgery you shouldnt lift anything. If you didnt have any problems like blood loss or severe/worse pain i would say probably ok. Check with your doctor if your very worried about it. I am sure he can either check himself to make sure or give you an appropriate answer.

I've had two c-secs and the second one i had=rdly felt anything, as for the first one yes it was a bit painful but nothing that you couldn't handle.

When i had my second c-sec i had a two year old and couldn't bear not picking her up so did so but with caution. Just be sensible and listen to your body!

The muscles following pregnancy and birth are stretched and as a result weaker, hence the need for postnatal exercise. With a C/S these muscles have been cut thus rendering them weaker. Essentially the rationale behind not lifting is that you haven't got the strength and thus cause damage or weaken them.
