Sorry I don't have an answer but was wondering whether Malaysia taxes its residents on a worldwide basis. I though it was territorial or on what you remit back.

I heard something like what Claire mentioned from Msia friends who worked abroad.
They went to consult the tax office and clear up whatever req details. Took along tax file# & letter of appointment from new company.
I saw the tax dept email in another forum
lhdn@hasilnet.org.my

I wrote to LHDN before but never get their reply. You know how the government servants do their work here. Slow and slow. I wish to know if i pay tax in HK do i still need to pay tax in Malaysia of what i earned or for the money i remit back.

If you are still in Msia, better drop in and consult them. If you are in HK and need help, I can request the info for you as one of my friends' office is around the corner to the tax office.

My hubbie's friend shared that he was denied from leaving the country for his international flight as LDHN had informed Immigration to do so. This guy had windup his biz to retire and was late in settling the previous yr's tax. He settled the same week of his departure, so database was not updated in the week itself.
