hi everyone. i have a question about where to take some great photos of the "real hong kong." to be honest, i've lived in hong kong for over 17 years so, truthfully, have never been a "tourist." however, my boyfriend is coming over for chinese new year and he is an avid photoprapher. he currently lives in beijing and has a photoblog (www.chinamash.com). he would love to have more photos of hong kong. where are some good locations to take some great cultural shots? any suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks!

My husband and I are also keen photographers, but have found it difficult getting 'cultural shots' in Hong Kong. People here dislike having their photos taken so much that it is hard to get any good people shots.
Having said that, I would suggest any of the market areas around Central (near the escalator or off Hollywood Road). Although all the markets may be closed for CNY so it could be hard to get this kind of photo. Maybe try the flower market in Victoria Park, or any other CNY celebrations in any other areas around.

You can alwasy go to Tai O in Lantau, which is one of the older villages and the viallage where their houses are built on stilts. Of cos there are other islands such as Cheung Chau but not as spectacular as Tai O. Also Sai Kung where there are seafood restaurants and amazing fish markets outside these restaurants. In terms of markets, you can check out the street markets in Wanchai between Hopewell Centre and Southorn Playground. Also Temple Street at night where they have a lot of those fortune tellers by the Yaumatei carpark. There are also plenty of temples such as the HK people's favorite Wong Tai Sin which is EXTREMELY crowded on CHinese new year's day as well as the Windmill Temple in Shatin!! Is that enough?

wow, misterd, your photography is phenemonal. i know what you mean about the "real"ness, and having lived in hong kong for so long, i should know even more what you mean, however, i've never approached this metropolis with the photographer's eye.
thanks so much.
