US citizens working in SG - problem filing income tax in US

Hi

My husband, a US citizen, has been a salaried employee in Singapore for a few years and has paid income tax in Singapore. Now he needs to file income tax in the US but the IRS there kept asking for his W2 forms which he doesn't have. We don't have this system here in Singapore. He produced IRAS (Singapore) income tax statements but the IRS have rejected them saying that they can't help him.

What is he to do? Are there any US citizens out there who have worked in Singapore and are able to file income tax in US, and can offer advice based on their experiences?

Thanks!

Sorry, no experience with Singapore but my understanding is that you don't need to provide W2 equivalents. Have you tried providing the bank statements showing the auto deposits?

Is he being audited? Did the IRS find out that he didn't report his income (or didn't file his return) and is now chasing after him? Actually, I am not sure if the IRS has the resources to track down foreign earned income.

Is he filing as self-employed?
