Trip to Hawaii

I was just there for CNY as I have a business there I go a couple of times a year. You can connect through Japan, via JAL, Northwest. Either way it's a long layover of about 5 hours each way. You can also go through Taiwan or the philipines, but kind of long layovers as well.

Really there is no easy way. Maui is nice I was at the Four Seasons last time, very good. IN Honolulu stayed at the Halekulani which was nice as well.

Overall it's pricey compared to what you can get in Asia for the same price and I find the service to be a bit only ok.

I'd probably recomend the Maldives, Seychelles, Thahiti before heading there

well, I've only been to Honolulu and loved it, so I can only imagine what the rest of Hawaii is like! FYI, Continental fly HK - Guam - Honolulu - LA. Slightly roundabout way, but interesting nevertheless!

No easy way to get there. I have to go for work twice a year and it is a 24 hour journey all up. You can go via Japan, Korea or Taipei and the duration isn't much different one time 2 of us left Maui at the same time, travelled a different route each and all got to HK within 30 mins of each other. Korea is a nicer airport if you don't have lounge access in Japan. Korea airlines is also very good.

If it's your first time, I think Oahu is the best. It offers everything - amazing food, city life, north shore for some quiet beaches, waikiki for some crazy night life -its a bit of everything for everyone. If you're looking for some good clothes shopping and shopping in general for US style products (cheaper clothes) then they have a great mall - Ala Moana. Lots of hotels to choose from and you can get from cheap to really expensive and posh. Rent a car if you can - that makes travel around the island easy and well worth it.

If you're looking for an outdoor adventures sort of place - Kauai is it. It's called the GArden Isle - beautiful, green and lush. It's generally less crowded than the others - and it's also a bit quieter in feel. My husband, city boy that he is, even after amazing kayaking adventures and hiking adventures and whatnot -still was complaining about "nothing to do." Not the island for him.

Maui is a bit of mix of both - you can get the touristy stuff - great restaurants - nice beaches, but if it's between Maui and Oahu, I actually prefer Oahu because of the access to activities and whatnot. Yes Oahu is crazy with tourists and so busy it seems, but with a car, much is to be had in terms of quiet and remoteness. ALso - highly recommend WAsabi Bistro for great japanese/fusion food.

you can also go via Guam. it is more direct but the planes are small. I agree with hkgqapro, the only reason you would choose Hawaii if because you have a particular reason to (a wedding, for example). otherwise, it is a pain to get to. it used to be a lot easier when the airlines couldn't fly nonstop between hong kong and north america but those days are long gone.

But if you didn't see places because they took longer to get to, you'd miss out on some amazing places...................
