You don't need a lawyer to get married in Thailand. Your girlfriend should know the proper process.

I believe that as long as your marriage is legal in TH it will also be recognised as such in CA. Do the right thing by following the rules when you get married in TH, but I suggest also contacting the CA embassy any special requirements they might have - including visa issues for your wife to accompany you to CA. That last bit might not be an automatic 'gimme' as a lot of first world countries are aware of marriages of convenience that take place purely for the purposes of getting one of the parties into their country through the proverbial back door. That back door has been closed in many cases.
