My 2 yo had her BCG injection late August. It is still 'angry' looking. It is dark purple in colour and looks like it could flare up and puss at any time.... after a week in the sun, I thought it might start to dry up and heal completely, however not so. I was told it would take a few m,onths to completely heal, however had the jab 6 mths ago now.
Anyone has similar experience, is there any creams that one could use to help dry it up. ie, was thinking tea tree oil?

no creams. That is what I was told. LEt it ooze and get crusty and it will disappear. My daughter's took a good chunk of time as well - close to 6 months if I remember correctly.
Next doc. appointment just double check with doctor.

Don't think it should take 6 months! My pediatricians advised that after the BCG shot, it takes at least 1 month for it to react, and so it started to grow a little swollen, and then if there is puss, don't touch it. But it should go away within the month..... if much longer, the doctor should take a look at it to ensure it's not infected. The more long it takes to heal, and if infected, the scar can look really really ugly.
My both kids' bcg scars are hardly noticeable. However, I do know, the younger they get it, the less the scar ...

With both of my children, the BCG injection site took about a year to completely heal.

It may indeed take this long to settle. Eventually it will all flatten out, probably leave like a purplish scar. There are no particular medicines to attenuate the reaction. Simple care is all that is needed.

My LO had hers at 1 day old in QMH - it blew into a big green balloon full of puss on her arm and popped after about 5 months (I've never seen so much puss!!) then started to heal. She still has a very obvious mark at 13 months - a GP friend told me it's nothing to worry about, it just means they're building up their immunity.

My 2 1/2 yr old had the shot in Nov. It did not react until mid January. However, it seemed to look angry for over 1 month. Eventually, it did begin to ooze, but by then it had developed into an abscess. 20 days of antibiotics and painful draining, it is finally starting to heal. I would recommend taking your child in if the site is red, swollen or really tender to the touch.
