What about Kyoto for culture, history and amazing temples and garden.

Tokyo for fun, food..go to Tsukiji market, excellent sushi and sasahimi.

Food, any kind is practically good anywhere.

Hakone for hot-spring.

Tour any big department store,go to the basement where food is sold and eat freebies, all tiny bits given away.

It is fun, start from hors d ouvres to dessert, they love pampering everybody especially foreigners, try Isetan in Shinjuku, Matsuya and Mitsukoshi in Ginza.

Then buy those yummy crackers(rice or shrimp).

Or bread, cakes and pastries better or equal from France, Belgium and Germany.

Try the metro during rush hours for experience, esp. Ginza and Chiyoda line, only for the fit.

www.jpinn.com for cheap accomodation.

Include Asakusa and Ueno(Ginza line), buy one-day ticket includes metro, train and bus ride within Tokyo.

Ameya yokocho(Ameyokocho) in Ueno(JR Ueno or Ueno Hirokoji by Ginza Line)to watch seller outdo each other to offer cheaper seafood like maguro, prawn, Russian crab etc., nori, imported goods.

Kaiten sushi(revolving sushi) around the area, 130yen~ per plate.

Sakura ryokan/hostel is in dowtown Tokyo.

Manga is found everywhere.

In any country, if you are nice, they will reciprocate.
