This question is really difficult to answer as it will depend on your requirement.

Some of us are more forgiving than others and willing to overlook or even like some of the picture aspect which is a no no for good picture quality considered by videophiles.

If you are mainstream viewers and can't distinguish the picture of TV screens on the showroom floor, you may like LCD more on the back of the crisp, sharper than sharp picture that goes well with demo material, mostly stationary one. Besides, the basic spec for LCD will be much more attractive, ie high resolution at the same or lower price point than plasma. Also, if the location of your TV directly faced against the window, LCD TV will be better suited due to its super brightness and the matt finish of the screen which helps reduce glare during the daytime.

However, if you're willing to just look into it, plasma will be a better choice in term of picture quality, which is closer to CRT tube type TV. LCD still has a long road to reach what plasma and CRT can do today with its black level and moving pictures so sports fan aficionado may have problem with that. Brightness, its previous strong point, is working against LCD in giving out good black level.

As such, don't expect LCD you bought today to be OK in the near term as it's mostly product under development. No matter what LCD based TV you bought, it will suffer from the upgrade bug like computers as engineer will try to better LCD in term of detail in low light scene and the response time. Not that it’s really unacceptable though.

onemorething said "LCD: picture is more steady..."

This is the first time I heard about this comment on LCD. I have never noticed these one but I notice a significant 'lagging' effect of LCD on fast moving program like in sports due to the limitation of LCD technology.

High resolution is definitely an advantage but I wonder when we will fully benefit from this one as, IMHO, it will take at least couple of years before HD content is widely available on most programs. By that time, current LCD set will be archaic as engineer will improve lots of its weakness, ie black level, response time, etc.

Also, plasma has a more natural color tone overall. Look at the fleshtone on both TV set and you see it.

I'm more on plasma side but there is nothing wrong for those who have their hearts set on LCD. Just that they should fully realize what they are getting themselves into with such a big ticket items like this.
