Zucchini

Never eaten zucchini in my life and have pureed some - green organic one and the other one is yellow but they taste bitter after I've steamed them. Do anyone know whether or not this means that it's rotten. They were packed on the day I brought them.

Please advise.

Bitterness - most probably due to zucchini having high chemical content "cucurbitacins" which was caused by the soil/insufficient water/weather during growing time; trigger the zucchini to overproduce the cucurbitacins in the skin.

Similar to cucumbers which can have bitter skins.

Best to discard them , too much cucurbitacins can cause stomach ache.

Before cooking, cut out a pc of skin and taste it first.

I cook without the skin.

Try cooking them with a slice of ginger.
