japanese food

where in hk can i buy veg japanese food supplies...like kelp, miso paste,seaweed..etc.i would like to buy all the basic stuff.

Also i was wondering if seaweed is vegetarion as i am a strict vegetarian?

Chinese Veg restaurants cuisine uses seaweed (an algae).

Kelp is also another form of seaweed.

Seaweed is a plant.


Konbu or kombu is dried kelp and is used in dashi (soup stock, and found in some miso soup) but if buying dashi (or miso soup) check it does not have fish flakes in it, as some do. Also check all processed/packaged foods for the word "bonito", this means it has fish in it.
