What to wear to AmCham "Miami Beat" ball?

we've been invited to the AmCham ball and this year's theme is "Miami Beat". The invitation suggests "bold colours and accoutrements for ladies".


Does anybody know what most women might be wearing? Is it necessary to wear a gown? Do people generally follow the suggested theme? I don't want to spend too much getting a whole new outfit if I can't wear it anywhere else. and we're unlikely to go for many other balls :-)


Any suggestions would also be most welcome.

Go with a bold color/print formalish dress. They never go wrong. Even for an AmCham ball!! The theme is pretty easy in that you've a wide choice!


And there are so many dresses available in HK now-a-days. Just go and buy one! Pair it with some lovely heels.

Yellow is HOT HOT HOT this season. If it happens to flatter your skin tone maybe you can consider a yellow outfit...how about a yellow miniskirt? Hemlines are going up up and up this season, which helps if you wanna show off your legs.


Seeing that this is an evening event, you may also consider wearing something shiny and sparkling - they're guaranteed to attract lots of attention. The whole futuristic/metalic look has been seen all over this year's New York Fashion Week, and I personally think it's a look that many of us can actually pull off as long as you don't go overboard. Try to keep the entire look fresh and low-key by picking out foil-like pieces with a subtle, simple shape to them, and you should be okay.


Going gold is also a good idea. This color goes REALLY well with colors such as white and red, as they make an exceptional contrast. How about a simple red dress (doesn't need to be a gown if you don't wanna overdress) paired with some really out-there gold accessories? I personally LOVE this look although you might prefer something more subtle? I don't know.

Saw this beautiful halter gold dress, just above knee length, with a wide belt/bow kinda thing at the waist(again something that is really ''in'') in the show window of Harvey Nichols the other day! It would look fab for an evening. I know I can carry it, but if only I had my special man to hold me as I walked in.....
