Hi, I am looking for someone who could repair my aircon and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. The companies I called so far have come up with huge charges just for coming to our place (Midlevels). The aircon in the bedroom is leaking. Does anyone know of a company that charges little for the initial check to see what's wrong (of course I will pay extra for parts that need to be repaired). Thanks for your suggestions.

Air conditioners now are very durable, and not that expensive. It is not that worthwhile to try to repair them. Air conditioners are heavy machineries so some would charge a lot just for lifting it off the mounting and doing an initial inspection. Some companies do take trad-ins, so you can also try that route.

I agree with Claire. The manufacturer tends to be the best bet as they charge the same for everyone, rather than adding a premium for gweilo and a further premium for smart gweilo dorms (like MidLevels). They also fix it with real parts, rather than jerry-rigging it to cause more serious probs a week later. If yours is Toshiba, see:
