Weekend Drive Recomendations?

ORIGINAL POST

I'm looking to take my family on a drive through the New Territories this weekend. Can anyone recommend a preferred route or destination? We'll be traveling from the South Side of the island and are eager to explore some areas outside of Stanley and Central. Thanks!

I guess if youre from the sth side, youve already done big wave bay...

Sai Kung is not bad, some ok places to eat there. Some of the areas around Clearwater Bay are spectacular. There are also the wild monkeys at ... forget the name, but large reservoir near lion rock.

We used to like to take our dogs for a runaround up Tai Mo Shan (HK's highest peak). There are some picnic tables up there, but no kiosk or anything so bring your own food. There are also loads of chinese cows wandering around. Head towards Tsuen Wan, then onto Route Twisk.

Sai Kung is also another favourite. I always think the route via Ma On Shan is much nicer than going via Tseung Kwan O.

Sai Kung, Clearwater Bay and Plover Cove are all scenic routes. We went for a drive to the latter two last weekend, and if the weather is good this weekend, hope to go to one of the beaches in Clearwater Bay.

Top of Fei Ngo Shan (Tate's Cairn). You pass a cheap and cheerful Chinese restaurant near the top, and the views are great (pollution permitting). Personally, unless you like sitting in tunnel queues, I think not much beats the drive much closer to your home, though - to Tai Tam Correctional Centre and down Shek O road to Shek O.
