not a fun experience so far...we use the one that you slip on the adult's fingers...he either refuses to open up or will chomp down my fingers.

any advice? sweetening the brush with some yummy baby toothpaste helped in the beginning but the nolvely has seen worn off...

Baby now loves getting his teeth brushed... not sure how long it will last...

All part of the evening ritual...

Bath

Massage

Pajamas

Last sip of milk from straw cup

HERE IT IS

he is all relaxed, so carry to bathroom, and he sees the toothbrush and smiles, I wet the toothbrush with plain water, brush his teeth, and then let him hold and brush too.

Then bedtime story and off to bed!

The trick for us is to do it when he is most relaxed and calm...

Wheelymate, I have major trouble getting my 18-mo to brush teeth at the beginning. Whilst most clean teeth as early as 6 months, I made a mistake of not starting early so that by 14 months, bub resisted badly to teethbrushing. So I started with cloth-wrap-around-finger method, and even so it was hard to get her to open up. After coupla weeks of persistence, she did open once every few days. Took me abt a month before she opens mouth every day. She now uses a toddler toothbrush and I am training her to use toothpaste as well.

I do play a little game with her where I put her toothbrush in a colourful cup, let her hold toothbrush while I pour boiled water inside the cup. She would preciously "guard" the water while I brush her teeth, thereafter she is allowed to drink the water - like a reward. Funny how playing a simple game like that works like a charm. good luck.

Have you let him play with the toothbrush? Maybe in the bathtub or another time he is relaxed?

Oh yes I forgot to mention that I did let bub watch me brush my teeth at the beginning - whereupon I put on a little dancing show and exargerated all my brushing moves - and she imitated me!! then I immediately offer her her toothbrush to play with.
