Japan and Toddler

We are looking to go to Tokyo and Kyoto for 9 days with our 13mth old in May. Does anyone have any advice on hotels in Tokyo and Kyoto that are best for babies ie cots available? Also is it easy to get around with a stroller in Japan? Are we better to just use the Ergo baby carrier?

Any other tips would be appreciated.

Thanks

I was living in Tokyo when I had my first child and we visited Kyoto when he was 10 mths. I have to say that there's a lot of walking and climbing, even in Tokyo itself. I didn't have a carrier so I used the Kolcraft umbrella stroller. It helped to when we were getting to places but at the temples the walkways were pebbled and with lots of stairs so one of us carried the child and the other carried the stroller. Sorry can't help you about the hotel but you should try a japanese inn in Kyoto where you sleep on a futon so there's no problem or falling down. It's really a great experience. A stroller is great in Tokyo but there are many stairs and no lift/escalators in the old subway stations. I personally think a carrier will wear you down a lot but a lightweight stroller will be the best option. Hope this helps.

bushy, I have been to TOkoy, Osaka, Kyoto many times with my babies, and we are doing another trip with two kids (3 year old and 1 year old)..... Easter.

Do you have a budget in mind for the hotel's rates? They range widely.

Cots from Hotels are for 12 months and under. But I insist on one anyways. They don't want to be responsible for any "mishaps". Some hotels offer you the bed rail.

If there are only three of you, it's better that you book a room with a King or Queen bed and have the baby sleep between you two.

PM me if you want more information.
