I'd like to start my own business, what does this mean for my working visa?

Hi all,

Is there anyone amongst us who has a similar experience and is willing to share?
The situation is as follows:

- I'm a 25 yo, graduated BBA looking to start my own business
- I moved to Hong Kong in January 2016
- In April I received my working permit with a company in HK
- I have switched jobs and my working permit is currently being transferred.

What I would like to do:
- I want to start my own business (this would later on require me to change my working visa into an entrepreneurs visa)
- To do so I would like to take on a part-time job as a English/Math tutor
- An institution has offered me 3 days per week at 300hkd/hr

What should I be aware of? Is it possible to have my working permit being taken over by the institution for a part-time job?

Thanks all for your infinite wisdom!

Cheers,
Matt

Thanks Ed, that is quite helpful!
What I understand is that it is allowed to have your own business while on a visitors or working visa.

Then 1 question remains: Is it possible to receive a working permit as a foreigner who's teaching English (par-time or on a flexible contract)?

My understanding is that to start a business and obtain a work visa through that business you would need to incorporate --- come up with a viable business plan --- capitalize the company and then present this to the hk government for approval.

I am not sure about the second question.

I would recommend you contact Invest HK for more information on this
